3 Things You Shouldn't Do If You Bought A "Lemon"

Buying a car -- whether it's new or used -- should be a positive thing. After all, many people love the feeling of driving off of a car lot in a vehicle that they just purchased. Unfortunately, those positive feelings can quickly go to the wayside if you realize that you have purchased a car that has a lot of problems and that isn't reliable. Many car buyers find themselves in a difficult situation after realizing that they have purchased a "lemon," and it can be tough to know what to do in this situation. These are some of the things that you shouldn't do if you find yourself dealing with a just-purchased car that seems to be nothing but trouble.

1. Make a Scene with the Dealer

It is important to call the dealer that you purchased the car from as soon as possible after realizing that there is something wrong with the vehicle. However, it's important to remain calm and to avoid yelling, cursing or otherwise making a scene. Hopefully, the dealer will help make the situation right, but things will probably only escalate in a negative way if you call or show up and make a scene. No matter how frustrated you might be, try to remain calm so that you can see if things can be worked out.

2. Spend a Lot of Money

Now that you have gone out and purchased a car that you might really need, you could assume that your only course of action is to go out and have the car repaired, regardless of what it might cost. However, you shouldn't go out and spend a ton of money on the car yourself just yet. For one thing, you could do so and just find out that there is more wrong with the car than you thought. You may also find that the dealer will fix the problem or replace the car without you having to spend any money, depending on the situation.

3. Handle the Situation Yourself

If the dealer doesn't make a move to resolve the problem right away, you shouldn't assume that you have to handle everything on your own. Instead, you should know that there are lawyers out there who specialize in helping people with the faulty vehicles that they have purchased. Consider hiring one of these professionals to help you with your situation before you assume that you have to handle everything on your own.
